This Friday, June 21, Todd Hartley, CEO of WireBuzz will interview Martin (“Marty”) Smith and me about our experiences with cancer, as part of Google’s promotion of Men’s Health Month.
The Live Google+ Hangout On Air event will be co-sponsored by Prostate Cancer Live and Colon Cancer Answers.
Marty Smith is currently Director of Marketing for AtlanticBT in Raleigh, NC, and has leukemia. He is taking early retirement from that position in order to devote his remaining time to building his Cure Cancer Starter campaign to crowdsource funding for research into curin cancer. Not only is he making that his full-time job, Marty recently “sold out to cure cancer,” selling his home and most of his possessions to kick off the fund of Cure Cancer Starter.
I woke up from a (way too-long-delatyed) colonoscopy just before Christmas 2009 to hear the doctor hurriedly arranging an appointment with an oncological surgeon for the next morning. That surgeon confirmed that I had a stage-3 rectal tumor, starting off my 2010 “year of cancer.” Thanks to some pioneering treatments available at nearby Duke Cancer Center, I am now in my third year of no recurrence.
Find the live event page here, and check in there at 10 a.m. EDT (7 a.m. PDT) to watch our interview. Or catch the YouTube video version afterwards, which I’ll post here.
